Visual Artist/Designer

Mawusi Amoaku is a Visual Artist/Designer, whose art practice explores themes of identity, representation and speech, located within the discourse of black women’s hairstyling practices. Working in the mediums of photography, storytelling and sculpture, she explores the complex nature of personal identity using hair as a metaphor for ‘Self’.

Her sculptural work and art practice aims to reposition the tradition of black hairstyling within a fine art context, recognizing the skill and enterprise engaged in black hairstyling.
